Trading History and Transactions

The Brooklyn Dodgers traded Jack Burman (minors), Kemp Wicker and $7,500 to the Cardinals for Don Padgett in 1941.

The San Francisco Giants traded Ken Reitz in 1976 to the Cardinals for Lynn McGlothen.

The New York Mets traded Jody Davis to the Cardinals for Ray Searage in 1979.

In 1981, the San Diego Padres traded a player to be named later, Steve Mura and Ozzie Smith to the St. Louis Cardinals for a player to be named later, Sixto Lezcano and Garry Templeton. The San Diego Padres sent Al Olmsted (February 19, 1982) to the St. Louis Cardinals to complete the trade. The St. Louis Cardinals sent Luis DeLeon(February 19, 1982) to the San Diego Padres to complete the trade.

1985 – In the first major swap of the winter meetings, the A’s trade C Mike Heath and P Tim Conroy to the Cardinals for Joaquin Andujar, 21-game winner.


2011- The Cardinals re-sign free agent SS Rafael Furcal, whose acquisition at the trading deadline was key in pushing the team into the postseason and to a World Series title.

The Cardinals drafted Matthew Bowman from the New York Mets in the 2015 rule 5 draft.

Birthdays

Charlie Shields (1879) – pitcher that finished 7-13. played in 1902 and 1907 with the Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Browns and the St. Louis Cardinals. He batted and threw left-handed.

Tim Griesenbeck (1897) – played in five games in 1920 all with the Cardinals as a catcher.

Robby Fenwick (1946) -he was the 16th pick in the 1st round of the 1967 June Baseball Draft by the San Francisco Giants. He played for the Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals. He was traded along with Ray Busse by the Astros to the Cardinals for Skip Jutze and Milt Ramírez on November 29, 1972. 

Ted Martinez (1947) – played in 1975 for the Cardinals.I  In 9 seasons he played in 657 games and had 1,480 at-bats, 165 runs, 355 hits, 50 doubles, 16 triples, 7 home runs, 108 RBI, 29 stolen Bases, 55 walks (12 intentional), .240 batting average, .270 on-base percentage, .309 slugging percentage, 458 total bases, 25 sacrifice hits, and 6 sacrifice flies. Defensively, he finished with an overall .968 fielding percentage.
