Ray Jablonski – Go-Go Jabbo!

Jablonski was a very good hitter in his day and he, along with Steve Bilko and Rip Repulski, formed a group on the Cardinals roster that was known as the Polish Falcons. Here is a great article by our friends at RetroSimba about that group.

He debuted as the Cards’ regular third baseman (April 14) in 1953, hitting 21 home runs and collecting 112 RBIs. He developed an exuberant following, with a large section of Sportsman’s Park frequently yelling, “Go-Go Jabbo!”

As an All-Star in 1954, Jablonski peaked at the plate — hitting .296 with 181 hits and 104 RBIs and was traded by the Cardinals.

His career was for two seasons in St. Louis but his major league career extended over seven seasons where he hit .268, smacked 83 home runs and knocked in 438 runs.
