Stan Musial Announces His Retirement

The Cardinals are off to a good start for 1963. The biggest news of the season comes on August 23rd as Stan Musial announces his retirement after 22 years with the Cardinals.

Uniform #6 is Retired

On September 25th, the Cardinals organization announces they will retire #6 worn by Stan Musial. This is the first time a number has been retired by the Cardinals. It was also announced that Stan will be given the title and job of Vice President of Baseball Operations after the season.

Stan Musial Day at Busch Stadium

September 29th is Stan Musial Day at Busch Stadium and he raps out two singles to bring his total to 3,630 for a career and places him second behind Ty Cobb.

All Cardinals Infield at All Star Game

All four starting infielders in the 1963 All-Star Game were Cardinals. Ken Boyer (3B), Dick Groat (SS), and Bill White (1B) were elected, and Julián Javier (2B) took over for the elected but injured Bill Mazeroski of Pittsburgh.

Gold Glovers

Pitcher Bobby Shantz, first baseman Bill White, third baseman Ken Boyer, and outfielder Curt Flood won Gold Gloves this year. The team finishes in second place with a 93-69 record.
