1977– The Cardinals traded Mark Covert (minors) to the Cubs for Buddy Schultz

1989– Red Schoendienst is elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee

Birthdays

Howie Krist (February 28, 1916 – April 23, 1989) played his entire career with the Cardinals and was a participant in the 1942 and 1946 World Series. His nickname was “Spud”. In 1941 he went 10-0 as a pitcher but lost his stuff after two years in World War II.
